As a Christian organization, the Martin Luther Homeschool Community holds to the three ecumenical creeds, the Apostles’, the Nicene, and the Athanasian. The Nicene Creed is reprinted below.
We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen.
We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one being with the Father. Through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation, he came down from heaven, was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the virgin Mary, and became fully human. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate. He suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end.
We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who in unity with the Father and the Son is worshiped and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets. We believe in one holy Christian and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come.
Amen.
Furthermore, as a confessional Lutheran organization, we hold to the confessions published in the 1580 Book of Concord because they are a true and faithful exposition of God’s Word. The Book of Concord can be found in various places online and in print. Finally, regarding the family and education we believe and teach
That God made human beings male and female, and that we are “fearfully and wonderfully made.” (Psalm 139:14).
That God instituted marriage as a lifelong union between one man and one woman for the purpose of companionship and the bearing and raising of godly children.
That parents have the primary responsibility for their children, to discipline them and raise them to know God’s good and gracious will and train them to practice selfless love for others. Teachers, tutors, coaches, etc. exist to assist parents in their responsibility.
That there will be families hurt and broken by sin, but all people can find comfort, healing, and forgiveness from the Savior, Jesus Christ.
Members of the Martin Luther Homeschool Community are not required to agree to every article of faith held by the organization and the church to which it belongs. Families are, however, strongly encouraged to study these things. The church offers free classes at different times and our pastor is always happy to answer questions.
